What changed in Georgia's entry and insurance rules, and what we corrected in our own guides. Every entry links to its official source and to the pages it affects, and each guide shows the date it was last reviewed.

Core guides reviewed against the policy wording
The English guides were re-read against the Unison policy terms and the entry dataset and now show a last-reviewed date. Two stale details were corrected across every language edition: prices can be shown in USD or EUR (not GEL), and Georgia's mobile operators are Magti, Silknet and Cellfie.

Corrected: Georgia sets no six-month passport rule
Ordinance No. 255 sets no minimum remaining validity for a travel document. The guides and country pages that stated a six-month rule now say the document must be valid for the whole stay, with six months described as what airlines usually ask for. Four German and Polish guides were also aligned with the ID-card rule below.

Corrected: EU identity cards are accepted at the border
Under Ordinance No. 255, Note 2, citizens of EU member states may enter Georgia with a national identity card as well as with a passport. Our Cyprus page and Polish guide had said the opposite and were corrected. Switzerland and Liechtenstein were removed from the ID-card list, because the Note covers EU member states only.

Nationality checker published
The entry-requirements checker went live for every nationality in our country list, verified against Government Ordinance No. 255, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consular portal and the official e-visa portal. The verification date is shown with every result.

Decree 602 takes effect at every border
Officers at all land crossings and the three international airports begin checking, on entry, for a policy with at least 30,000 GEL of medical and accident cover valid for the whole stay. Diplomats, certain treaty nationals and airport-transit passengers are exempt.

Government of Georgia adopts Decree No. 602
The decree approves the rules and conditions for mandatory health and accident insurance of incoming tourists. From 1 January 2026 it applies to nearly every foreign visitor, regardless of visa status or purpose of travel.

Georgia-China visa exemption takes effect
Under the mutual agreement, holders of ordinary Chinese passports enter Georgia visa-free for up to 30 days per visit and 90 days in total within any 180-day period. From 2026 the Decree 602 insurance requirement applies to them as well.
