Georgia Travel Insurance for Indian Travelers
Since 1 January 2026 Georgia requires every visitor, including Indian passport holders, to carry valid health insurance at the border. Entering Georgia from India in 2026
Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Georgia for tourism, and from 2026 they also need proof of valid health insurance at the border. Both documents are checked together at arrival.
- Indian passports need a Georgian visa
- Most Indian travelers apply for a Georgian e-Visa via the official portal at evisa.gov.ge before flying. The e-Visa is issued electronically and is typically valid for a single visit of up to 30 days. Check the official portal for current categories, fees, and processing times.
- Flights from India to Tbilisi
- IndiGo operates a direct route between Delhi and Tbilisi (TBS). One-stop options run from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad via Dubai (Emirates, flydubai), Sharjah (Air Arabia), Abu Dhabi (Etihad), Doha (Qatar Airways), and Istanbul (Turkish Airlines). Most flights arrive overnight; Tbilisi airport is around 20 minutes from the city center.
- Documents at the border
- Indian passport with at least 6 months validity from arrival, valid Georgian visa or e-Visa, proof of Decree 602 insurance, and sometimes a return ticket or hotel booking. The insurance PDF opens directly on your phone, so there is no need to print it.
- Insurance checked at airline check-in too
- Some Gulf and Turkish carriers now ask for insurance proof at check-in in Delhi, Mumbai, or your connecting hub. Save the PDF to your phone before leaving home; it works offline once downloaded once.
What the policy must include under Decree 602
- At least 30,000 Georgian lari (about 11,000 USD / 9.5 lakh INR) of coverage per traveler
- Valid for the entire stay in Georgia, from entry date through exit date with no gaps
- Digital or printed PDF, both accepted
- In English or Georgian, the only two languages Decree 602 accepts. Cover issues every policy bilingually in English and Georgian; there is no official Hindi version. The document you show at the border is the English/Georgian PDF.

Family and multi-generational travel
Indian families often travel together, with parents, grandparents, and children on the same trip. Decree 602 requires every traveler to hold an individual policy, including infants.
One policy per traveler
The policy is per person, not per family. When you request a quote, enter the exact count of adults and children. Cover issues one PDF per person with its own policy number. Children get the same coverage amount of 30,000 GEL at a slightly lower daily rate.
Automatic group discount for 5 or more
Families or groups of 5 or more travelers automatically receive a group discount. Just enter the full count in the quote form; the discount is applied to the total before payment, with no coupon code needed.
One purchase, one PDF per person
The buyer, who must be 18 or older under Georgian law, controls the whole order. You receive one confirmation email containing a separate PDF for each traveler. A parent or eldest adult typically buys for the entire family.
Short version: a family of 5 = 5 individual policies in one payment, with the group discount applied and a separate PDF for each person.
Paying from India
Indian Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards work, as long as international transactions are enabled on the card. RuPay-only cards and UPI cannot be used for international payments. The charge is in USD or EUR; your bank converts the amount to INR automatically.
Indian Visa or Mastercard
Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards issued by HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, Kotak, and other Indian banks work for international payment. If the card is declined, check that international transactions are enabled in your bank app. Indian banks often default this setting to off on debit cards, and some require enabling online transactions separately.
Apple Pay or Google Pay
If your card is linked to Apple Pay or Google Pay, checkout is a single tap. RuPay-on-UPI through Google Pay does not work for international merchants; the card needs to be added to Apple or Google Wallet directly.
Automatic INR conversion
Cover charges in USD or EUR; your bank converts the amount to INR at the live exchange rate. Your statement shows the actual INR amount plus any forex markup, typically 1 to 3.5 percent depending on the card and bank. A dedicated forex credit card minimises this fee.
At the border
- Open the PDF before arrival; it stays cached on your device and works offline
- Show it alongside your passport and Georgian visa when an officer asks
- Officers may ask short questions about your purpose of visit, where you are staying, and length of stay; simple answers in one or two sentences are enough
- If insurance is not asked for, that is normal because checks are random. But carrying valid cover is mandatory; without it you may be denied entry or fined
Escape the monsoon, see snow in winter
Many Indian travelers visit Georgia from June to September to escape the monsoon. Tbilisi averages 25 to 30°C in summer, and the mountains are noticeably cooler. Winter from December to March draws Indian visitors for snow they rarely see at home: Gudauri and Bakuriani offer accessible skiing, and Kazbegi has dramatic snowscapes within a half-day drive of Tbilisi. Cover policies start at 2-day trips and run up to 365 days, so one policy spans your full itinerary.
Long stays and remote work
Many Indian travelers extend a Georgia trip into a month or longer, sometimes combining it with remote work, an investor or freelance visa application, or family time. Cover policies run up to 365 days on a single PDF. The long-term page shows the flat daily rate, extension options, and what happens if you later apply for a residence permit.

Does my Indian travel insurance (HDFC Ergo, ICICI Lombard, Bajaj Allianz, Tata AIG) work for Georgia?
It depends on three things: (1) coverage of at least 30,000 GEL (about 11,000 USD / 9.5 lakh INR), (2) the policy is written in English or Georgian, and (3) the exact trip dates are stated on the policy. Many Indian insurer policies meet items 1 and 2, but Georgian border officers occasionally reject policies they cannot quickly verify. Buying a separate Cover policy is the simplest way to avoid an entry issue at the border, and the two policies can co-exist without affecting any claim under your Indian one.
Can I pay with RuPay, UPI, or net banking?
No to all three. RuPay, UPI, and Indian net banking are India-domestic payment networks, and the cover.ge payment processor is international. You need a Visa or Mastercard card (credit, debit, or forex) with international transactions enabled, or that card linked to Apple Pay or Google Pay. Most Indian bank cards work once the international toggle is on; if yours is declined, contact your bank to enable international and online transactions.
Is the policy PDF available in Hindi?
No. The policy PDF is officially issued in English and Georgian only, which are the two languages Decree 602 accepts and that border officers read. The website and checkout are available in English, but the certificate itself is bilingual English/Georgian. You can use any translation app if you want a Hindi summary, but the document accepted at the border is the English/Georgian PDF.
What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?
Pre-existing conditions are excluded from Decree 602 policies. This is standard across all compulsory tourist insurance in Georgia, not specific to Cover. The policy covers sudden illness or accidents that occur during your trip in Georgia. If you have a known condition under ongoing treatment, arrange a separate international travel insurance policy with pre-existing-condition coverage before flying.
Cover or Unison - who handles claims?
Cover is the agent that sells the policy; Cover does not pay claims. All medical claims and reimbursements are handled by JSC Unison Insurance Company, a Georgian-licensed insurer. In an emergency, call Unison's 24/7 hotline (support in English, Russian, and Georgian); all paperwork and post-treatment reimbursement is processed directly with Unison.
Are infants and small children covered the same way?
Yes. Cover insures infants from day one with no minimum age. The child needs to be listed on their own passport or on a parent's passport; enter the full name and date of birth at checkout. Coverage limits are the same 30,000 GEL as adults, at a slightly lower daily rate.
Is travel insurance mandatory for Georgia?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026, every visitor entering Georgia, including Indian passport holders, must hold valid health insurance with at least 30,000 Georgian lari (about 11,000 USD / 9.5 lakh INR) of coverage for the entire stay. The requirement was set by Government of Georgia Decree No. 602 and is checked at the border alongside your visa. Travelers without it can be denied entry or fined.
Do I need travel insurance for Georgia in 2026?
Yes, you need a Decree 602-compliant travel insurance policy to enter Georgia in 2026. The policy must cover at least 30,000 GEL of emergency medical expenses, be valid for your full trip dates with no gaps, and be issued in English or Georgian. Indian travelers can buy a compliant policy from Cover in two minutes using any Indian Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card.
How much does travel insurance for Georgia cost from India?
Cover charges 3.50 USD per adult per day, so a 7-day trip costs about 24.50 USD per traveler. Groups of 5 or more get an automatic 10 percent discount. The total in USD is shown before payment, and your Indian bank converts to INR at the live exchange rate plus a small forex markup (typically 1 to 3.5 percent depending on the card).
How do I get travel insurance for Georgia?
Open cover.ge from any device, enter your trip dates and the number of travelers, and pay with an Indian Visa or Mastercard. The Decree 602-compliant policy PDF arrives by email within seconds, ready to show at the Georgian border on your phone. There is no medical questionnaire, no broker call, and no minimum trip length - the same flow works for a 2-day weekend or a 365-day stay.
