Entering Georgia from Thailand in 2026

Thai passport holders are among the broader visa-free list for Georgia. Always confirm current entry rules on the official Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal before flying, and add proof of valid health insurance to your travel documents.

Check current visa rules before flying
Thai citizens are on Georgia's visa-free list for tourist visits, typically up to one year (365 days) per entry. Visa policy can change, so always confirm with the official Georgian e-Visa portal (evisa.gov.ge) or your nearest Georgian embassy before booking flights. Passport should be valid for the duration of your stay.
Flights from Thailand to Georgia
There are no direct flights from Thailand to Georgia. Common one-stop routes from Bangkok (BKK or DMK), Phuket (HKT), and Chiang Mai (CNX) connect via Dubai (Emirates, flydubai), Doha (Qatar Airways), Abu Dhabi (Etihad), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), and Sharjah (Air Arabia). Total travel time is typically 12-16 hours; most flights arrive in Tbilisi (TBS) in the early morning.
Documents at the border
Thai passport (valid for the trip), proof of Decree 602 insurance, and sometimes short questions about purpose of visit, return ticket, or accommodation. The insurance PDF opens directly on your phone; no print copy needed. Have a return or onward ticket ready to show if asked.
Insurance checked at airline check-in
Some Gulf and Turkish carriers now ask for insurance proof at check-in in Bangkok or your connecting hub. Save the PDF to your phone before flying from Thailand; it works offline once downloaded once.

What the policy must include under Decree 602

  • At least 30,000 Georgian lari (about 11,000 USD / 380,000 THB) of coverage per traveler
  • Valid for the entire stay in Georgia, from entry date through exit date with no gaps
  • Digital or printed PDF, both accepted
  • In English or Georgian, the only two languages Decree 602 accepts. Cover issues every policy bilingually in English and Georgian; there is no official Thai version. The document you show at the border is the English/Georgian PDF.

Family travel and group tours

Many Thai travelers visit Georgia as part of organized group tours or with extended family. Decree 602 requires every traveler to hold an individual policy, including infants.

One policy per traveler

The policy is per person, not per family or group. When you request a quote, enter the exact count of adults and children. Cover issues one PDF per person with its own policy number. Children get the same coverage amount of 30,000 GEL at a slightly lower daily rate.

Automatic group discount for 5 or more

Tour groups, family parties, or any booking with 5 or more travelers automatically receives a group discount. Just enter the full count in the quote form; the discount is applied to the total before payment, with no coupon code needed. Tour operators can pay once for the whole group.

One purchase, one PDF per person

The buyer, who must be 18 or older under Georgian law, controls the whole order. You receive one confirmation email containing a separate PDF for each traveler. A tour leader or family head typically buys for everyone.

Short version: a group of 10 travelers = 10 individual policies in one payment, with the group discount applied and a separate PDF for each person.

Paying from Thailand

Thai Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards work, as long as international (overseas) transactions are enabled. PromptPay, Thai QR, and domestic-only ATM cards do not work for international payments. The charge is in USD or EUR; your bank converts to THB automatically.

Thai Visa or Mastercard

Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards issued by Bangkok Bank, Kasikornbank (KBank), Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), Krungthai, TMBThanachart (TTB), Krungsri, and other Thai banks work for international payment. If the card is declined, check that international/overseas transactions are enabled in your mobile banking app - Thai banks often default this to off, especially on debit cards.

Apple Pay or Google Pay

If your Thai card is linked to Apple Pay or Google Pay, checkout is a single tap. PromptPay-on-QR through Thai apps does not work for international merchants; the card needs to be added to Apple or Google Wallet directly.

Automatic THB conversion

Cover charges in USD or EUR; your bank converts the amount to THB at the live exchange rate. Your statement shows the actual THB amount plus any forex markup, typically 1 to 2.5 percent depending on the card and bank. Multi-currency travel cards (Krungthai Travel Card, KBank Maxi) minimize this fee.

At the border

  1. Open the PDF before arrival; it stays cached on your device and works offline
  2. Show it alongside your Thai passport when an officer asks
  3. Officers may ask short questions about purpose of visit, accommodation, and length of stay; simple answers in one or two sentences are enough
  4. If insurance is not asked for, that is normal because checks are random. But carrying valid cover is mandatory; without it you may be denied entry or fined

Snow, mountains, and a different season

Many Thai travelers visit Georgia from April to October when Georgian weather is mildest - Tbilisi averages 20-30°C and the mountains are accessible without heavy gear. December to March brings real snow that most Thai visitors rarely see at home: Gudauri and Bakuriani offer accessible skiing within a half-day drive of Tbilisi. Cover policies start at 2-day trips and run up to 365 days, so one policy spans a 10-day group tour or an extended independent trip.

Long stays and independent travel

Beyond group tours, more independent Thai travelers are spending extended time in Georgia for hiking, photography trips, or wine and food exploration in Kakheti. Cover policies run up to 365 days on a single PDF. The long-term page shows the flat daily rate, extension options, and what happens if you later apply for a residence permit.

Frequently asked questions

Do Thai citizens need a visa to enter Georgia?

Thai passport holders are on Georgia's visa-free list for tourist stays, typically up to one year per entry. Visa policy can change, so always confirm current rules on the official Georgian e-Visa portal (evisa.gov.ge) or your nearest Georgian embassy before booking flights. The insurance requirement under Decree 602 applies whether you enter visa-free, with an e-Visa, or with a full visa.

Can I pay with PromptPay, Thai QR, or domestic ATM cards?

No to all three. PromptPay and Thai QR are Thai-domestic payment networks, and domestic-only ATM cards cannot be used internationally. You need a Visa or Mastercard card (credit, debit, or travel card) with international/overseas transactions enabled, or that card linked to Apple Pay or Google Pay. Most Thai bank cards work once the international toggle is on; if yours is declined, contact your bank to enable overseas transactions.

Is the policy PDF available in Thai?

No. The policy PDF is officially issued in English and Georgian only, which are the two languages Decree 602 accepts and that border officers read. The website is available in English; the certificate itself is bilingual English/Georgian. You can use any translation app for a Thai summary, but the document accepted at the border is the English/Georgian PDF.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Pre-existing conditions are excluded from Decree 602 policies. This is standard across all compulsory tourist insurance in Georgia, not specific to Cover. The policy covers sudden illness or accidents that occur during your trip in Georgia. If you have a known condition under ongoing treatment, arrange a separate Thai or international travel insurance policy with pre-existing-condition coverage before flying.

Cover or Unison - who handles claims?

Cover is the agent that sells the policy; Cover does not pay claims. All medical claims and reimbursements are handled by JSC Unison Insurance Company, a Georgian-licensed insurer. In an emergency, call Unison's 24/7 hotline (support in English, Russian, and Georgian); all paperwork and post-treatment reimbursement is processed directly with Unison.

When is the best time of year for Thai travelers to visit Georgia?

April through October is the most comfortable window - mild Tbilisi weather (20-30°C), green mountains, and full hiking access. July and August are warmest. For a snow experience that Thai travelers rarely see at home, January through March offers reliable skiing in Gudauri and Bakuriani plus dramatic snowscapes in Kazbegi. Wine harvest in Kakheti runs September to October. Cover policies work the same way regardless of season.
